New Delhi: In a major initiative aimed at strengthening ethical values and integrity in sports, the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Sports Foundation, an organisation in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations ECOSOC since 2021, has proposed the organisation of the “World Fair Play Day – India Edition” in collaboration with the COSMO Foundation and under the guidance of the International Fair Play Committee (CIFP), Lausanne, Switzerland.

The proposed event is designed as a national and international movement to promote the universal principles of Fair Play, Integrity, Respect, Equality, and Ethical Conduct in Sports. The initiative seeks to bring together athletes, coaches, educators, youth organisations, universities, traditional sports bodies, and policymakers to strengthen India’s value-based sporting culture.

According to the proposal, the programme will include an inaugural Fair Play Pledge Ceremony, expert sessions, panel discussions, youth engagement activities, Fair Play recognitions, cultural performances, and demonstrations of indigenous sports and martial arts traditions.

The organisers stated that the initiative aligns with India’s National Sports Policy 2025, National Education Policy 2020, UNESCO Fit for Life Project, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

The concept note further highlights the importance of traditional and indigenous sports in promoting discipline, respect, inclusion, and community values. The event is expected to showcase India’s rich cultural and sporting heritage while promoting ethical and safe sporting environments.

A major focus of the programme will be youth participation through Fair Play awareness drives, quizzes, poster competitions, ambassador programmes, and community engagement activities involving schools, universities, and sports institutions across the country.

The proposal also includes plans for a nationwide media and outreach campaign to highlight inspiring stories of sportsmanship and ethical leadership in sports.

The organisers have requested the endorsement and participation of the International Fair Play Committee (CIFP) and expressed interest in long-term collaboration for Fair Play education, advocacy, and global cooperation.

The initiative is expected to position India as a leading advocate for ethical, inclusive, and culturally rooted sport while strengthening international cooperation in the global Fair Play movement.
